About Chauncey Hood

The Journey Home

Lying east of Washington and Oregon, Idaho is a remarkable state.  Idaho covers two time zone, stretches from Canada to Nevada and hold the western side of the continental divide of the Rocky Mountains.  The panhandle is emerald green hillsides, timbered mountains and sprinkled with lakes of all sizes.  Central Idaho is covered with jagged peaks.  The Snake River Plain, with its wide open vistas, irrigated farm lands and busy cities forms the character of Southern Idaho.

The Treasure Valley of southwestern Idaho is truly a gem of the Gem State.  Rivers mountains, farmland and vibrant cities dominate the landscape.  The high desert to the south and timbered mountains to the north invite the visitor as well as the native to explore this wonderland.  This is the place I call home.  To cite a well used metaphor, “this is God’s country”  and I belong here.

My Philosophy:

“Life is uncertain… eat your dessert first”!

Education begins at Home

I have lived in this paradise we call Idaho since 1965.  I graduated from Boise State University in 1973 with a major in Theatre Arts and a minor in English Lit.  I continued my education at Stephen F. Austin State University in eastern Texas, but the call of Idaho was too great.  After receiving my MA in Theatre Arts I returned to Idaho where I again enrolled at BSU in the MBA program.  It was in this program that I found a career that was rewarding and fulfilling.  I became an IT professional and worked in that industry fro 22 years.  I count as friend many people in leadership of community and industry.

Home is where the Heart is

I take my recreation seriously.  I believe I have the most eclectic interests of anyone on the planet.  I am a past president of the “Idaho gold Prospectors Association” and taken training as an Ultra-Light pilot.  I have rafted most of the rivers in this part of Idaho and have followed some of the abandoned railroad grades for the logging trains of yesteryear.  I am also a member of the “Northwest Cruisers of Idaho” which is devoted to the ownership and promotion of Toyota land Cruisers and the enjoyment of off pavement adventures.  I have contributed artistically to various theatrical productions in the valley.  Additionally, there was never a garage or yard sale that I couldn’t find something interesting.  I believe Idaho is a way of life as well as a state of being and I am dedicated to the preservation of our ideals and values.

Home Tradition and Values

I am a westerner by birth.  The things I value are love of god and Country, family, friendship and loyalty.  I am a member of the Choctaw Nation and proud of my Native American heritage.  I am a Past Master of Oriental #60 A. f. & A. M>, the largest Masonic Lodge in Idaho and also a Past Master of Silver City #13 A. F & A. M., one of the oldest Masonic Lodges in Idaho.  I am retired from the U. S. Naval Reserves where I served as a Cryptologic Technician.  One of my best friends is my ex-wife and my step son calls me Dad as does my natural son.  I am independent as far as my religious preference, but God is always first in my life and I thank him every day for the opportunity of living in Idaho.
